Qualifications & Hiring Process
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Hold a high school diploma or GED
- Be a U.S. citizen
- Be at least 21 years old and not older than 40 at the time of appointment (unless enrolled in the 1977 Police & Fire Pension)
- Possess a valid Indiana driver’s license (or obtain one within 60 days of residency) with no more than 8 active points
- Have no felony convictions and no misdemeanor domestic violence convictions
- Must not have been dishonorably discharged from the military
- Must meet department substance use standards.
- Must hold valid CPAT certification by the time a position is offered.
The Hiring Process
Joining the Fishers Fire Department is a competitive process. Here’s what to expect during the process (order may vary):
- Submit your online application
- Take the written aptitude test
- Provide proof of CPAT completion
- Participate in oral interviews with the hiring committee
- Complete the ladder climb evaluation
- Submit your application packet
- Undergo a background investigation
- Complete physical and psychological evaluations
