Qualifications & Hiring Process

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

Hold a high school diploma or GED
Be a U.S. citizen
Be at least 21 years old and not older than 40 at the time of appointment (unless enrolled in the 1977 Police & Fire Pension)
Possess a valid Indiana driver’s license (or obtain one within 60 days of residency) with no more than 8 active points
Have no felony convictions and no misdemeanor domestic violence convictions
Must not have been dishonorably discharged from the military
Must meet department substance use standards.
Must hold valid CPAT certification by the time a position is offered.

The Hiring Process
